Stayed here at Easter 2018, the accommodation was beyond expectations, room was lovely and warm, and the décor and room facilities are excellent, great value! Breakfast was extra, but was superb, too much to eat to be Honest, pub meal was excellent too. The Staff , the Pub, the Landlady and Landlord are the Best! Entertainment provided on the Sunday night was excellent, and the beer was of the highest quality I would recommend this place to anybody, my wife loved it too, so much so we have it booked again for next Easter

Our holiday cottage was close by so we didn't hesitate to call into our local. We wasn't disappointed at all and such a perfect place. From ordering to receiving our food, it was with such ease. Staff were warm and friendly and the food was great. The food was wholesome, nutritious and perfectly presented. The costs won't dent a hole in your wallet, too and such good value! We were allowed to take our dogs (2 11 month old puppies) into the restaurant, they've never been in a pub before and were so welcomed and well behaved. So would we go again? YES, most definitely

We recently stayed overnight in room 3 which we found to be most comfy. Everything you could need was to hand in a very pleasantly decorated room. For dinner we both had the Ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection at a very reasonable price. The staff were excellent and the whole ambience of the pub was superb. Breakfast did not disappoint either, freshly cooked and presented well with extra toast and tea being offered. We can highly recommend a stay and meals at this most welcoming establishment.

Spent a lovely night here with our family wedding party. The welcome was great, our room was lovely and comfortable, as was confirmed by other family members. The morning breakfast was exceptional. Plenty of tea, coffee, fresh orange. Also continental breakfast, as well as full English. Fresh strawberries, cereal, toast, yoghurt. Our lady host was lovely. Helpful, pleasant, attended to everything for us as a large party. I would come back and recommend this fantastic B&B to anyone.

spent a lovely night here to celebrate our anniversary, we stayed in Rm 6, comfortable double bed, coffee/tea facilities, tv, shower en suite and the room was pleasantly decorated which is in an outside block which were stables but have been refurbished to a high standard. Towels & toiletries supplied too. 10-15 min walk to Matlock but a good steep hill on return so well ready for a drink when you arrive back but very friendly pub and meals were lovely, 2 for £10, we had the burgers served with fries & side salad and enjoyed it. The following morning I had the continental, my hubby the full English and good value so would highly recommend staying here as very friendly welcome, lovely comfy rooms & great food all at reasonable prices. Thankyou

We stayed at the Duke of Wellington last night and really had a great time. The room was lovely and clean, our yorkshire terrier was made welcome without issue, he even accompanied us for breakfast in the pub. Locals were friendly and helped us to find a local taxi to take us down to Matlock Bath and back where we had a lovely afternoon. The price was fantastic, we will definitely go back. Stopped off for a meal, after a day out at Crich Tramway Museum on 26th May 2014. We had the ham, egg, chips and peas, which was great value for money at £10 for 2 meals. Good portions with lots of meat. Will be back, when in the area again.

On our way out from work we popped in for a quick meal and drink. Food and service was very good I really enjoyed the thai fishcake and chips. The wine was a reasonable price for a large glass so my group of ladies were very happy! The interior was cosy with a nice open fire, would definately call in again.

Came here with my girlfriend for the weekend and glad we stayed here! We stayed in the big room and it was great! We both had a warm welcome and got offered some maps and advice for things to do. We came to meet some old friends from school so we came home quiet late both nights and nobody seemed to mind. We'll definitely be staying here again next time we're in Matlock!

I have recently stayed at this hotel and I have to say it was fabulous. The moment we walked in we were made to feel very welcome.
Maybe it was the landlords Irish charm and friendliness that hooked us.
the room was lovely like a barn conversion with vaulted ceiling very modern and very clean.
I will certainly be returning.

Just returned from 2 nights at the Duke of Wellington in Matlock and we had a fantastic time. Stayed with my husband and 8 yr old daughter and 18 month old son. We were made so welcome by  the landlord and landlady who, despite it being a very busy friday night in the pub, took us straight to our room. We had a family room which consisted of a lovely big main bed room with a huge bed plus a little annexe room with bunk beds for the kids - perfect rather than cramming everyone into one room like most places do!!!!

We then went to the pub for something to eat - the food was delicious and very very reasonably priced - put it this way even our very picky daughter cleared her plate!!

Breakfast in the morning was just brilliant, cereal, toast and a cracking full english with as much tea, coffee and juice as you wanted - a brilliant way to set you up for the day!

All in all we had a brilliant time and to be honest can't remember the last time we were made to feel so welcome anywhere, it's certainly not always the case when you have young children.

We have made another booking to go back over the christmas period and are really really really looking forward to it - I would say to anyone staying in the Matlock area stay at the Duke of Wellington, I doubt you'd find many better and certainly none friendlier!!

I stayed here on Business for two nights and enjoyed it much more than the usual Hiltons and Marriots. Granted – the rooms are basic but the bed was very comfy!

The Dinner in the Pub was great both nights. The rooms are quirky and lovely. It was spotless, but some attention needs to be put to the Bathrooms, just a quick job of replacing the Silicon around the wet areas and maybe some re-grouting of the tiles.

Overall, very impressive for such a small place and if the wedding party the day before didn't have ruined all the Irons I would have been able to Iron my shirt too :)

My partner and I stayed at The Duke for a 3 night break, and it's a fabulous place, well deserving of all the positive reviews. From our arrival, when we were greeted with coffees and a great intro to the sights of Matlock and Matlock Bath, to a friendly farewell on our last day, our stay at The Duke was a great experience.

Dave and Joe are so lovely and friendly, and the food is fantastic - I wish we could have stayed longer so that we could try more of the breakfast options, however the full cooked breakfast was fabulous. Try the cask ales, and do stay for an evening meal if you can; it's like dinner with friends.

Our room was a good size in the cottage behind the pub, which was a lovely studio room. The room had a (nice!) but small bathroom, which wasn't a problem for us.

To sum up, thank you Dave and Joe for a lovely trip; we have recommended you to our friends, and look forward to returning soon.

My 3 friends and i stayed here for 1 night, we had rooms 5 and 9 and they were both lovely, very clean, comfy and quite quirky. We weren't rushed to check out and all staff were really friendly. i would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in matlock. It was great value.

My fiancé booked us a one night stay in this lovely little b&b, rang up that morning for the same evening, luckily they had a spare room. On arrivel, we was shown to our room which was seperate from the pub itself which I found very cosy. The rooms where just adorable. The bed was the comfiest I'd ever slept in which was fab. The next morning we went for our breakfast which was outstanding. The table was already layed out waiting for us, we was given a jug of milk, juice and coffee which was lovely and was supriced of the three course breakfast as we wasn't expecting much. We received cereal, a full English breakfast and toast the service was fantastic. I can't understand the bad reviews. We would deffinelty stay at the duke of Wellington again! Recommended!!

We visited for one night on our way further north. We found the location to be good , you can easily walk into town, although there is a challenging hill coming back! There are also pleanty of walking routes nearby. The town is pretty, with good views of the peaks. Matlock has a range of restaurants and shops.
The accommodation was comfortable, with sky television, heating -which was individually controlled and efficient. The Landlady and landlord were friendly and helpful and were always working. We ate in the restaurant which served good value' pubgrub'. My husband aslo rated the real ale as pretty good
